Na hun spectaculaire limited edition box voor Halloween, duurde het niet lang voordat Geek Gear het volgende thema voor deze speciale oplage aankondigde. Met de feestdagen voor de deur werd het ‘Elf Relocation’ aangezien ook de huiselfen een fijn eindejaar verdienen.
De drie hints beloofden alvast sokken, iets wat me deed denken aan tante Petunia’s taart die Dobby liet rondzweven en de hele emotionele laatste woorden van diezelfde trouwe huiself. Tijd om op ontdekking te gaan!
After their spectacular limited edition box for Halloween it didn’t take long before Geek Gear announced the new theme for their next limited edition. With the holidays peeking around the corner they went for ‘Elf Relocation’ since also the house elves deserve a nice ending of the year.
The three hints promised us already socks, something that reminded me of aunt Petunia’s pudding that Dobby levitated and the very emotional last words of the same loyal house elf. Time to explore this box!
Naar goede gewoonte beginnen we met de T-shirt. Die is voor een keer wit met een kleurrijke print die oproept om sokken te doneren. Mocht je het vergeten zijn, in de magische wereld worden de huiselfen nogal gezien als slaven van de rijkere families. De enige manier om een huiself zijn vrijheid te geven, is door hem een kledingstuk te presenteren. Harry gaf Dobby een sok waardoor hij zich eindelijk kon bevrijden van de Malfoys. Nadien richt Hermelien in nagedachtenis van Dobby S.P.E.W. op. Dit is een vereniging die zich inzit voor de rechten van huiselfen. Dus deze opdruk zou zomaar eens op hun flyers of posters kunnen staan. En daarmee hebben we meteen ook de sokkenhint al gehad.
Het mysterie van de tweede hint is vervolgens aan de beurt, want ik vind een klein lavendelkleurig taartendoosje waarop ‘Petunia’s Pudding’ te lezen valt. Binnenin zit een suikerzoete replica van het genoemde gerecht. De details zijn prachtig waardoor hij bijna echt lijkt. Let wel op de waarschuwing die beneden op het doosje vermeld staat: deze pudding is nogal gevoelig voor de magie van huiselfen.
As usual we start with the T-shirt. For once it has a white colour with a very colourful print that asks to donate socks. In case you forgot, in the magical world house elves are kind viewed as slaves for the more richer families. The only way to give a house elf their freedom, is by presenting them a piece of clothing. Harry gave Dobby a sock on which he finally could liberate himself from the Malfoys. Afterwards Hermione starts up S.P.E.W. in memory of Dobby. This is a movement that support and protects the rights of house elves. So this design would be perfect for their flyers or posters. And with that we already covered the sock hint.
The mystery of hint two is next, because I find a small lavender coloured cakebox on which I can read ‘Petunia’s Pudding’. Inside is a sugar coated replica of said dish. The details are amazing causing that it almost looks like the real thing. Keep in mind the warning that’s on the box though: this pudding is prone to house elf levitation.
Er zitten ook enkele licensed producten in deze box. Zo heb je deze mok waarop Dobby is te zien met de sok die hem vrijheid gaf. De gekende quote ‘Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf.’ maakt het natuurlijk helemaal af.
There are also a few licensed items in this box. For example this mug on which you can see Dobby with the sock that offered him freedom. The known quote ‘Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf.’ makes the picture complete.
Wanneer je ‘Elf Relocation’ box hoort, weet je dat het draait om het helpen van de huiselfen. En hoe help je zo een huiself het beste? Door er eentje zelf te adopteren natuurlijk! Bij deze mag ik jullie voorstellen aan Scout die sinds kort deel uitmaakt van ons magische gezin. Ondertussen is ze al dikke vriendjes met Bandit (mijn Niffler) en Amethyst (mijn Pygmypuff). Op de foto poseert ze trots met haar eigen adoptiecertificaat dat naast haar naam ook voorzien is van gouden folie waardoor Bandit het met plezier heeft toegevoegd aan zijn collectie van schatten.
Het item van hint drie is zoals te verwachten best emotioneel. Aan de ene kant heb je deze prachtige magneet die Zweinstein toont tijdens de nacht. Over het silhouet staat de quote ‘Such a wonderful place to be with friends.’ Dit waren de laatste woorden van Dobby voordat hij stierf in Harry’s armen. Dat maakt de magneet natuurlijk niet minder mooi, maar wel bitterzoet.
When you hear ‘Elf Relocation’ box, you know that it’s all about helping the house elves. And what is the best way to help a house elf? By adopting one yourself of course! So I’m proud to present Scout who has been a part of our magical family for a while now. In the mean time she’s already thick as thieves with Bandit (my Niffler) and Amethyst (my Pygmypuff). On the picture she proudly poses with her own adoption certificate that has next to her name also golden foil which caused that Bandit added it with pleasure to his collection of treasures.
The item of hint three is as expected quite emotional. On the one side you have this beautiful magnet that shows Hogwarts during the night. On top of the silhouette you have the quote ‘Such a wonderful place to be with friends.’ This were the last words of Dobby before he died in Harry’s arms. That of course doesn’t make the magnet less beautiful, just bittersweet.
Er is altijd nog plaats voor een extra notitieboekje! Dat is zowat het motto van elke schrijver en in mijn geval is dat niet anders. Dit licensed exemplaar is vierkant waardoor het iets kleiner is dan je doorsnee notitieboekje. Op de cover staat Dobby en in de hoeken van elke pagina vind je ook zijn silhouet terug. De binnenkant en achterkant van de cover zijn voorzien van een quote en naast een rekker om alles samen te houden, is er ook nog een leeslint waaraan een sok bungelt.
There is always space for an extra notebook! That’s basically the motto of every writer and in my case that’s no different. This licensed one is square shaped causing that it’s a little smaller than your standard notebook. On the cover is Dobby and also in the corners of every page you can find his silhouette. The inside and back of the cover are decorated with quotes and next to an elastic band to keep everything together, there’s also a ribbon with a sock charm.
Het volgende item ligt misschien wat gevoelig, maar persoonlijk vind ik het eigenlijk best cool. Deze pin heeft de vorm van Bellatrix’ dolk. Ja, dezelfde dolk die verantwoordelijk was voor de dood van Dobby. Maar kijk naar al die fijne details! Ik heb zelf de Noble Collection replica van deze dolk en het lijkt alsof Geek Gear die gewoon heeft laten krimpen om er een pin van te maken. Natuurlijk houd ik deze pin uit de buurt van Scout, maar hij krijgt wel een mooi plekje op mijn bord met al mijn Harry Potter pins.
Het laatste item heeft opnieuw Dobby in de hoofdrol en is licensed. Deze art print heeft ongeveer hetzelfde design als de mok al is het kleurenschema natuurlijk anders.
The next item may be a bit sensitive, but personally I think it’s quite cool. This pin is shaped like Bellatrix’ dagger. Yes, the same dagger that was responsible for Dobby’s death. But look at all those fine details! I myself own the Noble Collection replica of this dagger and it looks like Geek Gear just shrunk it and made it into a pin. Of course I’ll keep this pin as far away from Scout as possible, but it still gets a nice place on my board with all my Harry Potter pins.
The last item has again Dobby in the main role and is licensed. This art print has basically the same design as the mug though the colour scheme is of course different.
Een zeer geslaagde box, al vond ik wel dat de focus enorm op Dobby lag. Ja, hij is natuurlijk de meest gekende huiself maar toch had ik graag wat meer variatie gezien. Het idee van een eigen huiself te adopteren vind ik heel origineel. Ik had het dan ook niet erg gevonden als ze hier wat meer items aan hadden toegekend. Een klein bedje of stoeltje of zelfs een extra truitje was tof geweest. Naast Scout was voor mij ook de pin een voltreffer.
A very successful box, though the focus lays a lot on Dobby. Yes, he of course is the most know house elf but still I would have liked a bit more of variation. The idea of adopting your own house elf I find very original. I wouldn’t have minded if they had gone for more items complementing this. A small bed or chair or even an extra sweater would have been fun. Next to Scout also the pin for me was a winner.
